About The Maths Court™

The Maths Court: A Global Support Resource for Math and Legal Literacy
The Math Cout is a revolutionary support resource hub to improve mathematics learning and legal literacy levels. By using real-life legal cases as the foundation for mathematics instruction and problem-solving, math become more relevant and relatable as the legal literacy of all stakeholders increases, especially our students, educators, and adult learners. We use art as our medium for contextualising our cases and to support the visual learner.ng.

Our Mandate: "We do not replace the curriculum; we put the curriculum on trial to prove its real-world value."

  • Support, Not Substitution: The Math Court is developed by Alton M. Felix (Artist, Math Lecturer and Lawyer) to support and enhance existing school resources. It is not intended to replace the national curriculum, mandated syllabi (such as CSEC or CAPE), or official classroom textbooks.

  • Pedagogical Enrichment: Our "Math on Trial" Utility Packs and Legal Literacy Case Briefs serve as a support mechanism for Educators, Students, Adult Learners and Legal Practitioners. We provide the support that allows these learners to apply theoretical math to practical, legal scenarios.

  • Professional Alignment: We encourage our educators and parents to utilize these resources as a powerful engagement tool alongside official school programs to deepen critical thinking, legal literacy, and deductive reasoning.

A New Way to Learn: The Legal Literacy Case-Study Method
For most students, Math is very abstract, difficult, boring and irrelevant, and they often ask, "When will I ever use this?" At The Maths Court, we use the law and math to solve real-life problems, thereby making Math more practical and relatable for both students and adults. For each case study, we explain the legal jargon in court cases and show how Math is used in legal disputes to arrive at a just solution. In the process, we are producing critical thinkers and a more informed citizenry.

The Three Pillars of the Math Court

Every lesson plan and "Math Court" worksheet is built upon our three foundational principles:

  • TRUTH: We use real evidence and facts to ground our learning.

  • LOGIC: We use mathematical precision as the key to solving legal problems.

  • GRACE: We deliver this initiative as a gift to humanity (Ex Gratia) to restore hope and literacy to our schools and communities.

Our Motto: Veritas et Logica ex Gratia
(Truth and Logic by Grace)

The R&D Component

To ensure our teaching methods remain at the cutting edge of global standards, The Math Court is supported by a dedicated Research and Development (R&D) hub. We constantly analyze the impact of our case-study methods to ensure that every student who enters the Math Court leaves with the quantitative literacy needed to navigate the modern world.
